Ugandan music star Iryn Namubiru has finally told her story in a new book. For years, the singer has been in the spotlight not only for her music but also for her complicated family life. Earlier this year, she shocked fans when she revealed that she had spent 11 years without talking to her mother. She also promised that she would one day write a book to share her side of the story.
That promise has now come true. Last week, at the Kampala Serena Hotel, Iryn officially launched her long-awaited memoir titled “My Mother Knows.” The invite-only event was attended by a mix of artistes, dignitaries, and close friends, including Ykee Benda, Babaluku, Halima Namakula, and even Uganda’s former Vice President Gilbert Bukenya.
The 319-page book dives deep into her personal journey, with chapters covering topics like “My Father,” “Siblings,” “Lake Victoria boat cruise incident,” “the Japan saga,” “the Land saga,” and many others. Each section tells a piece of her life story, both the painful and the powerful.
Iryn explained that she decided to write this memoir because she was tired of being misunderstood. In her words:
“I want to tell the truth. I have been carrying a mountain of pain, frustration, shame, uncertainty, and confusion. It is exhausting. I am fed up with gossip and lies created by some toxic, envious, and ungrateful family members. They forget that the truth always comes out.”
The book is not only about family conflicts but also about survival, resilience, and strength. It shows the private struggles behind the glamour of her music career, including moments that the public never knew about. From the famous boat accident on Lake Victoria, to her time in Japan, and family land wrangles, Iryn opens up in detail, giving fans and readers a rare chance to understand her beyond the headlines.
By publishing “My Mother Knows,” Iryn has joined the list of Ugandan artistes who are using books to preserve their legacy and inspire others. The memoir is also a lesson in honesty, reminding readers that behind every star there is a story of battles, pain, and healing.
Fans are now excited to read the full story and get closer to the singer who has given them hits like Nkuweki and Tebiba Bingi. With this book, Iryn Namubiru is not only speaking for herself but also for many women who go through family struggles in silence.
